A friend and I have started up a business and wish to use video
storage/editing as our primary selling product. We've looked into many
alternatives but keep being pointed back to YouTube, in particular the
developer software they've made available for companies like ours.
Just had a few questions that I'd apprectiate some sort of response
to, just to test the water. Appologies for my naivety but you have to
start somewhere, right?
I'll briefly run through the idea (without going into too much detail,
for privacy reasons). We intend on filming our own footage, starting
off with single cameras but eventually (hopefully) ending up with
hundreds/thousands of seperate cameras all filming videos on our
behalf. These cameras would somehow be individually to a hard drive,
be it a computer or an NVR, which would feed (via an FTP setup) a web
service which could store them, allow them to be edited etc. So just
to get the ball rolling, would it be possible to arrange this sort of
setup with youtube? Is there, say, an annual fee we might expect to
pay in return for unlimited bandwidth and video storage? We need
visitors to our site to be able to access and edit our youtube videos
but without leaving our domain. Having done some preliminary research
this seems to be possible, thought we'd better attempt to get a second
opinion. We know we'll have to spend a fair amount of money to achieve
all this, however every company/web developer we talk to tells us to
'strike a deal with youtube' as neither of us a computer wizards and
why try and re-invent the wheel? All we're essentially looking at is
video storage and editing from our own cameras, in no way are we
aiming to compete with youtube, simply to use it's resources at (I'm
assuming) a cost or partnership.
Many thanks. Appologies if this makes little sense, there's only so
much we can give away at this stage and only really need to know if
it's possible (and a rough idea of how) at this stage.
Cheers guys.
